Cockatoo Grove, established on historic Cobram Station, is nestled on a tranquil bend of the Upper Murray River, an Australian region synonymous with fine food and wine production. Surrounded by an ancient forest of red gums, ordered rows of olive trees thrive in deep, red soil. Cool, sunny winters and long, hot summers under the Australian sun allow the olives to ripen perfectly, creating rich, luscious organic extra virgin olive oils.
Cockatoo Grove’s certified organic extra virgin olive oil is grown and processed without the use of synthetic chemicals, fertilisers or genetically modified organisms. Cockatoo Grove is certified organic through AUS-QUAL to the National Standard for Organic and Bio-Dynamic produce.
The grove was established by Ken & Joan Dugan in 1996 with 25,000 trees of Italian, Spanish and Israeli origin including Frantoio, Coreggiola, Nevadillo Blanco, Leccino, Manzanillo, Koroneiki and Arbequina. These varieties were specifically chosen for their fine oil quality and consistency in producing quality extra virgin olive oil.
Leaving nothing to chance, the grove is irrigated using a computer controlled, underground drip irrigation system. This ensures optimum soil moisture levels are maintained through the growing and ripening season, whilst minimising water consumption.
At Cockatoo Grove we use state of the art processing facilities. Olives on our estate are pressed on site within 4 hours of harvesting to ensure freshness, vibrant taste and to maximise antioxidants. The oil is then stored in oxygen free stainless steel tanks at 19C, being the ideal storage temperature.
